History
In June of 2006, several individuals in Chapel Hill, NC with a longstanding interest in nonprofit organizations got together to discuss developing one or more socially conscious technology initiatives, choosing the name New Millennium Awakening for the overall organization. After careful consideration, we decided to focus initially on Find Rising Stars as we believe there is particular value in developing an initiative that will serve young people, impacting both the rest of their lives and society as a whole. In keeping with our commitment to social and economic justice our constituency is students at minority institutions including Historically Black Colleges, Tribal Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions and women’s colleges as well as students at small underserved colleges such as The Appalachian College Association. We will begin with Historically Black Colleges, women’s colleges and small colleges in North Carolina.
